Last Call with Calling All Cars servers

CallingAllCars

The Calling All Cars servers were taken offline Wednesday Jan. 13 due to lack of support and extremely low player counts.

Calling All Cars was created by David Jaffe, whose library of work include Twisted Metal and God of War. Many reviewers have said that Calling All Cars played similarly to the Twisted Metal games probably because your using cars. Gamers described the game best when they said it’s like playing hot potato with cars.

The game uses a third person perspective  with cutesy cell-shaded graphics in which four players compete over who can capture the most escaped convicts. The player with the most captured convicts wins. To make this difficult, other players can ram themselves into your car or use the aid of power-ups to recapture the convicts for themselves.

David Jaffe, creator, surprisingly was never asked by Sony to create more content especially for an online driven game. He was asked to make the game, and that was that. Jaffe did come on the PSNation Podcast in an interview in which he talked about Calling All Cars and left listeners with the message to go out and support it.

Calling All Cars was released May 10, 2007 by Incognito Entertainment for the PSN and has received generally favorable reviews with a Metacritic Score of 77 and User Score of 82. Remember, the game still has offline split-screen up to four players so that you may enjoy the game with friends in your living room.

Dedicated fans and returning players played Calling All Cars online for one last hurrah in this video.
