E3 Coverage: Go intergalactic bounty hunting with Prey 2
Taking a departure from the first game Prey 2 follows a US Martial who has found himself lost on an alien world where he begins working as a bounty hunter. From there the player has many different options on what to do and how to play. The main story will be told via missions that can be found throughout the game. However, there will also be side missions and random events that can occur throughout the city. This helps build a much less linear game than most first person shooters.
The game will feature numerous weapons and 20 different gadgets to help with hunting alien bounties. The gadgets range from simple scanners to cool things like jet boots all of which can alter how players approach dealing with missions. Since the player has many choices in playing the game there is also a morality system that will influence how NPCs react to you in the game. Even simple choices like having your gun holstered can influence how an NPC will react. However, the morality system will not be the focal point of the game; it is merely a way of making NPC reactions more realistic.
There is a major graphical step up between the first and second Prey game. The alien city looks amazing and being able to parkour throughout the city allows players to admire the beauty while exploring. There are some great touches that have been made to the game to make the areas of Prey 2 appear to be a living world. In addition of the graphics the sound design is pretty good. There looks to be a good amount of voice work in the game, which helps complete the experience.
Even if the first game did not appeal to you, Prey 2 might just win you over. Giving players choice in how to play, adding in interesting gadgets and weapons, and creating an immersive world help it stand apart from other first person shooters. There is something for everyone in this action packed game.
